Philosophy of Gambling - Conclusion. And stuff....

Lets review. I've already stated that I think the first things you should do, if you want to be a successful gambler in general and blackjack player in particular, is develop a money management strategy and an exit strategy. (This, of course, assumes that you have taken to time to learn basic strategy and understand the basics of card counting. But you probably wouldn't be reading an online blog about casino surveillance if you weren't serious enough to do that.)  Now you have to decide what kind of player you want to be. If you live in Nevada, or near a legal casino that offers table games, and most US citizens do, these days, what with the popularity of tribal casinos, I am talking to you.  You have a choice of being a casual player, just in it for fun and entertainment, or a serious player who, while not being an addict or an adrenaline junkie, wants to have at least a better than average expectation of making a little money in the long run. Or a lot, depending on your

Philosophy of gambling, part 2

Ok, so here is what I would expect some gambling sessions look like, if you are using your powers of observation and the correct mind set to influence your money management and exit strategy. Losing session. Lets start with the bad. Lets say you start with 100 units and you decide to set a stop loss for your self of 60 units. So you buy in for $100 at a Five dollar minimum, single deck table.  Its you and two other people at the table, you sit at third base. At the top of deck you bet 5 units, a lot of small cards come out during the hand, and you win. At a plus 4 with no aces out, you decide to double up, so you bet 10 units. You draw two face cards, but the dealer has a BJ and you lose.  Now the count is minus 1 with 2 aces out, so you drop back down to 5 units and lose again. Shuffle.  You've lost two in a row, so, even though its top of deck, you bet 10. Again, you draw two face cards, but the dealer gets a four card draw to a twenty one. Lose. At minus 4 with 1 ace out, you

OK, first thing you need to know about gambling is that you have to have the right mindset. A philosophy of gambling, you might say.  This mind set, this philosophy, will guide your journey, help you make decisions and ultimately lead to your success or failure in the casino.  Here are some things you need to know. You aren't going to win every time you play. Duh. Self explanatory.  Sometimes, no matter how prepared you are, how well you count cards, no matter how well you adhere to basic strategy (or deviate from it if the count is in your favor) you will sometimes lose. Get used to it, it will happen and you have to keep your cool when it does. If you cant do that, you have no business gambling in the f

I'm crossing over, BTW

Ok, so today, i got up at the crack of 9am, walked the dogs, had a bagel with cream cheese, and decided that I was going to cross over..... To the dark side.....   Im waiting for the door to crash in and the SWAT team to come through..... OK, nothing happened, so I guess I'll explain what I mean by crossing over. Essentially, im gonna spill my guts about casinos in general and surveillance operations in particular. And if the casinos don't like it, tough! Over the course of this blog, I will be, essentially, teaching a free class in, what the casinos call, advantage play. Card counting, masking your play, keeping your identity to yourself, keeping your financial details to yourself and other things that casino surveillance departments, along with table games supervisors, cage personnel and security will try and keep you from doing. Oh, and the IRS. They want to know what you're up to also.  With the new emphases since the advent of global terrorism, and especially sin

My new blog

I realize that New Years day is still a week away, but I am getting a jump on resolution to start blogging. I've always wanted to be a writer and everyone says that blogging is a good way to start, so here goes. And also, I have a lot of free time on my hands, having just been fired from a large casino here in Reno, for what basically amounts to having cancer.  I was diagnosed with CLL (chronic lymphocytic leukemia) about 3 months ago.  I won't go in to specifics about what happened, but lets just say that my employer went from "I'll do anything to help" to "you're fired" in record time.  Oh, well. So, this is the start of my blog. I will try to post something new every few days or so, mostly having to do with the industry that I have been making my living at since I was literally 21, but that now no longer finds me to be employable.   See ya soon.
