The Martingale system. Why it sucks.

When you drop 60 bucks in less than 3 minutes playing  Blackjack, it's time for a strategic withdrawal  and a re-evaluation of your personal risk-reward paradigm.  So I cashed  in and decided to write it off with a blog post, thus making it a tax-deductible learning opportunity. Don't you wish you could write off your gambling losses like that? I stopped at the tables at the Bonanza, in North Reno, just after lunch, and got fleeced. I'm not saying I got cheated or anything, the dealer was just hot that's all. No big deal, this kind of thing sometimes happens. Some of you might think that I walked away too early, that only spending three minutes (six hands) at the table is not enough to determine how things are going to go. To that I call bullshit. I have a hard and fast rule that if at any point during your session you lose 5 Hands in a row, you should move to another table or quit. Since there was only one table open I opted for quitting. Losing six hands in a row...

A strange theory, myth busted.

I keep coming across this while doing research online for blog post subjects and I wanted to comment on it. The myth is that casinos pump oxygen into the gaming floor area to keep people awake, and stimulated, and to continue gambling. I don't know where this idea came from, but it's easily debunked by anyone who is ever been in the back of house area of a large casino. I've worked at multiple casinos as an observer, manager and technician. I have had unfettered access to the back of house areas of at least a dozen different casinos both in Nevada, and in other jurisdictions. I've also spent many days on rooftops, installing cameras near HVAC equipment. I am yet to ever see a large group of oxygen tanks hooked up to any of that. If you think about it, oxygen is a highly flammable gas, and casinos are some of the few remaining public areas that allow people to light up a cigarette. Not a good mix. I can assure you this is a total muyh. This is not to say the casinos...

Great craps video and my thoughts on how best to play.

I watched a great video on YouTube about craps. Click here to watch it for yourself, which you should do before reading the rest of my post. The name of the strategy is the 6-8 come again. I don't dislike the strategy, it's pretty close to the way I play all the time, I just disagree with a couple of things. Number one he doesn't have a pass line bet ever with the strategy, and when you're the shooter you have to have a pass line bet. It's required by the house to shoot the dice. Plus, having a pass line bet, enables you to take odds on that bet. My main problem with the strategy is that he doesn't take odds on his come bet right away. Instead he waits for his 6 and 8 place bets and/or other come bets  made, to recoup his initial investment. Only then does he starts taking odds on whatever numbers the come bet goes to. Those of you who are experienced craps players will see the problem with a strategy right away. The odds bet, on either a come bet or a pass...

52 Factorial!

I just watched an interesting video on YouTube about the total numbers of ways that you can rearrange a deck of 52 cards. It's very interesting video, without going overboard on the math, basically it says that if you had started shuffling at the beginning of time and shuffled a new deck randomly every second, you would still not have duplicated any shuffle (or deck combinations) in 13.8 billion years. think about that the next time you go play video poker. Hit and Run gambling.

Hi everybody, before we start I want to remind you about my Patreon page. If you enjoy my content, and would like to see more of it more often, please consider becoming a patron. Click here to go to my page. On to todays topic: Hit and Run Gambling. I don't really gamble for fun or entertainment. I would rather go see a movie, or read a book. For me, when there's money involved with something, it's not 'just for fun' or "entertainment". It's not that I'm morally opposed to gambling for fun or entertainment, it's just not my thing. If you want to do it that's fine, go right ahead. As long as you're playing small amounts and not betting money that's meant for the rent, there's no real harm in it. Instead, I like to engage in what I call "hit-and-run" gambling. Goal number 1 is to walk out a winner. To that end, goal number 2 is to only make bets that have a very small house advantage, percentage-wise. Goal number ...

I'm ba-ack!

Hi everybody. I have been away since late last year. If you have read the older posts you will see that I was having a lot of medical problems. I think I have most of them fixed, finally, and feel like blogging for the first time in a long while. So, on to the topic of today. I have been trolling through Youtube recently, and seen a lot of videos on craps betting systems. They all say something about  "How to win at craps" or words to that effect. They are all bullshit and "Click bait", designed to get video views and subscribers (and eventually money) to the channel owners. They will all claim to have some kind of "never lose" system and then show a series of throws, bets and payoffs that some how "prove" that their system works. Don't believe it for a second. Here is one that is typical of the whole bunch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tn5z8Me_phE It's called the "Iron Cross" betting method because the bets line up in...
