Great craps video and my thoughts on how best to play.

I watched a great video on YouTube about craps. Click here to watch it for yourself, which you should do before reading the rest of my post.

The name of the strategy is the 6-8 come again. I don't dislike the strategy, it's pretty close to the way I play all the time, I just disagree with a couple of things. Number one he doesn't have a pass line bet ever with the strategy, and when you're the shooter you have to have a pass line bet. It's required by the house to shoot the dice. Plus, having a pass line bet, enables you to take odds on that bet.

My main problem with the strategy is that he doesn't take odds on his come bet right away. Instead he waits for his 6 and 8 place bets and/or other come bets  made, to recoup his initial investment. Only then does he starts taking odds on whatever numbers the come bet goes to.

Those of you who are experienced craps players will see the problem with a strategy right away. The odds bet, on either a come bet or a pass line bet, are paid at true odds. So there is no house advantage to whatever amount of money you bet as odds. There isn't any other bet in the casino that you can say this about. This is what makes craps such a great game to play.

I feel like you are wasting an opportunity if you don't take full odds on every pass line or come bet that you make. I know that this strategy is trying to only risk $30 total per shooter. And that's fine if you have a limited bankroll and/or you're trying to play it safe.

However, you really should have enough of a bankroll to be able to place the 6 and 8, for either $6 or $12 each, and then also make one pass line bet with full odds in one other come bet with full odds. On a$5 table, that means risking somewhere around $50 to $60 on any one shooter. the nice thing about true odds is that around half of what you have at risk is getting paid off with no house advantage over you. And in the long run that can make quite a difference to your bank roll.

What's the surveillance room like? Repost

This is a repost of a post I made about a year ago, but I feel like it bares s repeating. Enjoy. I got another good question last week, from a reader wanting to know what a surveillance room is like, how it is laid out and how it is staffed and run.  So here goes. I have worked in surveillance departments at six different casinos in the last 25 years. Some very small (300 slots, 6 blackjack tables) and some very big (3000 slots, 60-70 table games of all kinds). When I started in the early 90's it was all VCRs and not all cameras were recorded all the time. We used a lot of "multi-plexers" and "quad screens". A multi-plexer used one VCR to display and record up to 16 screens on one monitor. Since the VCR still records at 30 frames per second, that meant that if you did a review on any one of those 16 screens you would be looking at a "freeze frame" effect, where you only got 1.8 frames per second of the shot you were looking at. A quad would record ...

Advantage play is not cheating. Repost

This is a reprint of a previous post on advantage play. Before I begin, I want to remind you about my Patreon page. If you enjoy my content, and would like to see more of it more often, please consider becoming a patron. Click here to go to my page. Whenever I meet people and tell them what my profession has been for the last 25 years, I always come away with the feeling that they equate card counting and advantage play as cheating. It is not, of course, as most of the readers of this blog undoubtedly know. It is just against the policy of most casinos to allow it. As a legally licensed, privately owned business located on private property, all casinos have the right to refuse service to anyone, for any reason they choose. Most of the time, card counting, or ace/shuffle tracking, or anything else that casino management considers "advantage play" wont even get you thrown out, just politely asked to not play blackjack anymore. Management would love to have you go play slots...
