So week 3 is in the books, and my pick of the week again failed to come through for me. I had the Tampa Bay Buccaneers + 1.5 at home against the Steelers, and they lost 30-27 despite a late comeback effort. Lots of money came in on the Bucs over the week, who ended up being  1.5 point favorites, but I had recommended buying them earlier in the week when they were still dogs. It didn't even matter, however. This makes me an embarrassing 0-3 on the season with my POTW.  Ugh....... It's ok, I plan on finishing strong!  At least I'm doing well with my college picks (3-1 so far).

And once again my 3 team parlay didn't fare so well. I had the Browns on TNF, and they won (and covered) for the first time in years! But the Pats and Bucs let me down.

I didn't have an Underdog POTW, as that was my pick on the Bucs, who were dogs when I released it.

So, on to next week. I'll release my 3-team parlay pick on Thursday, my College POTW on Friday, and my pro pick on Saturday. Be sure and click subscribe or follow to get notified when I release the picks.  And good luck everybody.

Other things I found interesting:

In the Broncos-Ravens game there were not one, but two pick-6's called back for dumb ass penalties on the returns!  This perfectly illustrates what makes handicapping football so difficult.  A pick-6 is a potential 14 point swing away from one team towards the other. It's tough to survive that, as a bettor, when most point spreads are 6.5 points or less.

Elsewhere, two of the leagues best teams mailed it in Sunday  and were rewarded with embarrassing losses against two of the worst. Minnesota and New England each get my "bag of assholes" award, the first I've given out this year, for their low-energy effort in grasping defeat from the jaws of easy victory. Buffalo, Cleveland and Detroit are still among the top competitors for next year's number one draft pick (along with Oakland).

What's the surveillance room like? Repost

This is a repost of a post I made about a year ago, but I feel like it bares s repeating. Enjoy. I got another good question last week, from a reader wanting to know what a surveillance room is like, how it is laid out and how it is staffed and run.  So here goes. I have worked in surveillance departments at six different casinos in the last 25 years. Some very small (300 slots, 6 blackjack tables) and some very big (3000 slots, 60-70 table games of all kinds). When I started in the early 90's it was all VCRs and not all cameras were recorded all the time. We used a lot of "multi-plexers" and "quad screens". A multi-plexer used one VCR to display and record up to 16 screens on one monitor. Since the VCR still records at 30 frames per second, that meant that if you did a review on any one of those 16 screens you would be looking at a "freeze frame" effect, where you only got 1.8 frames per second of the shot you were looking at. A quad would record

Advantage play is not cheating. Repost

This is a reprint of a previous post on advantage play. Before I begin, I want to remind you about my Patreon page. If you enjoy my content, and would like to see more of it more often, please consider becoming a patron. Click here to go to my page. Whenever I meet people and tell them what my profession has been for the last 25 years, I always come away with the feeling that they equate card counting and advantage play as cheating. It is not, of course, as most of the readers of this blog undoubtedly know. It is just against the policy of most casinos to allow it. As a legally licensed, privately owned business located on private property, all casinos have the right to refuse service to anyone, for any reason they choose. Most of the time, card counting, or ace/shuffle tracking, or anything else that casino management considers "advantage play" wont even get you thrown out, just politely asked to not play blackjack anymore. Management would love to have you go play slots
